The Atami Bi-Growmix is a particularly sustainable product from the Atami range. This peat mix consists of 75% peat and 25% coir. Apart from additives to stabilize the soil quality and for the purpose of feeding the plants, no other substances are included. This also means that no perlite is used in the mixture.
The coconut in the substrate mixture is of course of the usual quality that can be expected from Atami. The coconut pulp used for this comes exclusively from agricultural sources.
The peat consists of different types and is specially produced for this purpose from agriculturally cultivated peat moss (sphagnum). This sphagnum cultivation (or called peat farming) is currently the most environmentally friendly and sustainable form of peat production. In the process, moor areas that have already been exploited are waterlogged again. This creates a suitable substrate for sphagnum cultivation. The CO² emissions of the previously drained moor areas are significantly reduced as a result of this practice and a new, moor-like cultural landscape is created. Among other things, exploited moor areas are being revived, at least partially.
Atami Bi-Growmix is organic and pre-fertilized for a period of 2 to 4 weeks. After this time, liquid fertilizer should be used again until the breeding period is over. The substrate mixture can store more water and more air than would be possible with a pure peat substrate. The buffering effect that peat substrate has on EC and PH values in the nutrient solution is practically preserved. In addition, Atami Bi-Growmix does not collapse and thus maintains the positive soil properties until the end of breeding.
